Mary MacKillop Catholic College Year 10 student Connor McKerrow has led the Highfields college as part of the Student Representative team for the past three years.

Having been at the College since Year 7, he has enjoyed being part of a growing community, providing direct pathways of action for student needs. Connor is a member of the foundation CSYMA Group at Mary MacKillop, offering a missionary presence at the college by fundraising for the wider community, and cooking for the Healing Hands group. Connor is also a keen sportsman, holding many records at the school, representing the College at the QCIS Athletics Carnival in sprints and long jump, and playing for the local Red Lions Hockey Club.

Undergoing a rigorous application process, Connor has recently been selected as one of 25 Toowoomba Regional Council Youth Leaders, saying of the achievement, “I like helping people and being active in the community. I want to help not only in the Highfields area, but the wider Toowoomba community and expand on my area of influence to make improvements for youth”. To keep himself on track, Connor believes two mantras ring true, “what goes around, comes around” and “don’t expect anyone to do anything you wouldn’t expect of yourself”. These are values Connor believes tie in with what he has learned at Mary MacKillop.

Looking to the future, Connor has set his sights on studying engineering at university, in particular mechatronics, a combination of electrical, computer and mechanical engineering.
