The Southern Downs Regional Council is calling for nominees for the Southern Downs’ Australia Day Awards, to recognise local members for their achievements or contributions to the community.

The awards give every day people the chance to put forward someone they know for one of the numerous honours that will be presented at celebrations on Friday 26 January, 2018.

It doesn’t matter whether the nominee has a school, business, sports, or community background, there is an award to recognise all of their efforts.

Southern Downs Region Mayor Tracy Dobie said she was looking forward to receiving the nominations.

“There are so many heroes in our community who deserve to be recognised for their work,” said Cr Dobie.

“These awards are a great way to recognise their efforts and to show our appreciation.”

Awards will be presented at Stanthorpe and Warwick celebrations in various categories including Citizen Award, Cultural Award, Sports Award, Sports Administration Award, and Community Event of the Year award.

Junior awards are open to those under 18 years of age as at 26 January 2018.

Nominators can also nominate what location the award should be given.

Nomination forms are available here or from the Southern Downs Regional Council offices at 64 Fitzroy Street, Warwick and 61 Marsh Street, Stanthorpe.

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday, 8 December, 2017.
