This weekend will see 103 young Australians audition for a starring role in the Toowoomba Choral Society Youth Choir’s major production for 2018.

Children aged between 10 and 18 will sing, dance and act for a panel of judges for the chance to perform in the family musical My Son Pinocchio: Gepetto’s Musical Tale to be performed at the Empire Theatre in July this year.

Auditions will be held at Fairholme College on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 March, with call backs scheduled for Sunday morning.

Director Vicki Bravery says she is excited to be presenting My Son Pinocchio to Toowoomba audiences, marking her 10th year as director for the award winning choir’s annual holiday production.

“Each year we are performing to sell-out crowds and fostering a lasting appreciation of theatre in our young performers, which is wonderful,” Vicki said, also mentioning it will be the first time My Son Pinocchio will be performed in Toowoomba. “I’m very excited about this show because it tells the well known Disney story of Pinocchio, but from Gepetto’s point of view. Sometimes we think we know a story, but when you look at it from another side we can learn so much more about the characters. Just like in real life, we can appreciate each other a little bit better if we stop to think about how the other person feels in a situation, rather than just looking at it from our own perspective.”

My Son Pinocchio: Gepetto’s Musical Tale will be performed at the Empire Theatre for two shows including a matinee and a night show on 14 July.
