SCOTS PGC College student Kira Holmes is the epitome of an all-rounder. Since joining SCOTS PGC College as a Year 7 student in 2015, Kira has amassed a long list of sporting and academic achievements.

On joining the College, Kira intended to make the most of the opportunities on offer and continues to excel in a range of areas. Cricket is one sport about which she is very passionate.  In 2018, Kira represented Queensland at the National Titles and earlier this year was chosen to represent the Northern Territory as well.  She is a brilliant wicketkeeper and a fine batsman; skills of which her College team mates are in awe. As winter approaches, Kira can be found on the oval warming up for athletics season.  Since arriving at SCOTS PGC, she has been selected each year to represent the College and the Darling Downs for shotput, discus and javelin at the Queensland State Titles.

When she’s not on the field, Kira is on horseback, likely in training to once again represent Queensland at the National Pony Club Championships where she has competed for the past five years, winning various events.

Complementary to her active involvement in sports, Kira strives for success in the academic sphere. This year she will aim to achieve top marks across the board and continue representing the College on the Debating team. When asked about her favourite subject, Kira does not hesitate with her answer. “Accounting is easily my favourite subject.  I love working with numbers, and can definitely see myself pursuing a career in this field.”

Humble in all she does, Kira lives by the philosophy that everything happens for a reason.  “If something doesn’t go your way, it’s okay — it might not be your day.  All you can do is your best and don’t let anything hold you back.”
