The Glennie School’s new three court Sports Centre has received a boost with generous donations from across the Glennie community. Clive and Conchita Armitage and Clive Berghofer, all of whom have been Glennie grandparents, have made personal contributions to help make the new Sports Centre a bricks and mortar reality.

The Glennie School Foundation Chair Mr David Russell said the school community was grateful to the Armitage and Berghofer families for their ongoing support. “The generous philanthropy of people like Clive, Conchita and Clive, our Glennie School Foundation members, our School families and staff makes it possible for us to support Glennie girls with scholarships and contributions to building works,” said Mr Russell. The Glennie School’s Parents and Friend’s Association, Sports Supporters and Old Girl’s Association have also committed significant funds to the Sports Centre.

The Glennie School Principal Mrs Kim Cohen said the Sports Centre would be a much welcome addition to the School’s facilities. “Not only will the new centre be a place for girls to play and train for competitive sports and recreational fitness activities, it will also provide a place for us to come together indoors as one whole School community, something we currently cannot do.” “I am grateful to those who are financially supporting the construction of this new centre. The generosity of our School community knows no bounds and it goes a long way to helping us provide contemporary facilities to allow each Glennie girl to be All She Can Be,” Mrs Cohen said.

Once completed, the Sports Centre will have approximately 1300 cubic metres of concrete, 130 tonnes of steel reinforcing, 28,000 blocks and 34,000 bricks. The largest concrete slab pour was completed on 15 August and consisted of 275 cubic metres of concrete supplied in 39 concrete agitator trucks.Over the coming weeks, large structural steel roof trusses and framing will be installed, followed by metal roof sheeting. Construction is expected to be finished in March 2019.
