The Annual Grand Homes Tour, to be held on March 26, provides the opportunity for visitors to explore some of Toowoomba’s most prestigious and historical homes, while raising significant funds to contribute to local and international charities.
One of the award winners in this year’s tour, Downs Designer Homes state award winner Casa dei Sogni (meaning ‘house of dreams’) was designed in the style of a magnificent Italian villa. Multiple columns, wrought iron balustrades, copper guttering, an intricate chimney and subtle trims give the Middle Ridge home the feel of continental Europe. Marble stairs ascend to double wrought iron entrance doors, which lead to a 6.5 metre entrance tower with an arched window.
The living area boasts built-in fire places with timber mantles and stone hearths, and a beautifully proportioned mirror, while the detailed kitchen integrates the best of European appliances amongst stone tops and stained Tasmanian oak finishes.
The second home, a triumphant salute to mid-century post-modernism, has been brought to life by Mark Winter Constructions. With a design and presence imagined in the Hollywood Hills or Malibu, the home sits upon a generous corner block, overlooking bushland in a secluded Middle Ridge enclave. Extensive use of western red cedar is in perfect symphony when juxtaposed against white render and black external cladding
An impressive, three metre pivoting glass door entry opens up options to access the media room, or the large study. The foyer leads into a dramatic double height, open plan living area, with the dining room and kitchen only divided by a waterfall sided marble island bench.
All bathrooms throughout the home make extensive use of porcelain tiling, Pietra grey marble vanity tops, and Rogerseller vanity basins.
Luxuriously carpeted stairs lead from the living space to the top floor main bedroom retreat; a generous lounge and dressing space with direct ensuite access, and featuring tallowwood cabinetry. It is this master suite that crowns a home unique in its cutting-edge design, and masterful craftsmanship.
This year, the proceeds from the Garden City Zonta Club’s Annual Grand Homes Tour will be donated to the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation and the annual Child Safety Pantomime. Tickets can be purchased from the Empire Theatre.
