Downlands College Year 12 student Kohan Herbert is a motivated young man with a promising future in Rugby Union.

Since joining the Downlands community in 2016, he has been committed to excelling in sport. Downlands College Director of Rugby Coaching and ex-Wallaby Garrick Morgan first met Kohan on the Gold Coast in 2013 and was delighted when he expressed an interest in attending Downlands. “The cultural fit between Downlands and Kohan has been excellent, with the environment enabling Kohan to thrive both as a leader and in achieving sporting excellence.”

In addition to his rugby commitments, Kohan plays basketball, is involved in the College Social Justice program, was elected Vice-Captain of Cody Boarding House and is completing a Certificate III in Fitness. Rugby remains Kohan’s passion. A valued member of the First XV, he was awarded Best Forward in 2016. Now Captain of the First XV, Kohan is guided by his motto “trust the process” and is highly regarded by both peers and staff. “Kohan’s work ethic is exemplary. He already trains like a disciplined, professional athlete, accepts no excuses and reaps the rewards,” said Morgan.

Kohan was selected as Captain of Queensland II at the Australian Schools Championship, where his impressive performance earned him a place in the Australian Schoolboys Barbarians team. Green and Gold Rugby recently listed Kohan in the Top Five Players to watch in Australian schoolboy rugby. Hoping to travel the world playing rugby, Kohan’s future is looking bright.
