Toowoomba’s Jacob Moss has been awarded the title of Young Advisor of the Year by Count Financial, one of Australia’s largest networks of accounting-based advisory firms. This comes as an outstanding achievement for Moss considering he has only been in the advising sector for less than three years. It is also an admirable feat where the former Christian Outreach College Toowoomba student juggles full-time work with studying a Bachelor of Business and Commerce at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ).

Moss is currently a wealth advisor at Robertson Scannell, a long-established firm and 2018 Count Member Firm of the Year. Initially, he started out as an administrator originally before moving into para-planning and eventually transitioning into an advisory role. According to Moss, his success with clients comes from following the firm’s motto of “putting on the client’s hat”.“We make every decision with the client front-of-mind, regardless of the outcome for the firm or our income,” he said. “With each client, we ask, ‘would I be doing this with my money or my parents’ money?’”

For Moss, one of the most rewarding aspects of financial planning is the ability to make a difference to his clients’ quality of life. This might include helping a client to invest more tax-efficiently or setting them up financially for a comfortable retirement. Moss also enjoys the ongoing education that comes with the job. He believes the advice profession will continue to evolve rapidly through technological innovation and regulatory activity, and he’s ready and willing to take on each change as it comes.
