Southern Downs Regional Council invites residents to hear true stories of adventure and surviving through adversity at its We Two! Meet the Authors event at the Warwick Library on Friday 9 November. Friends and authors Jenny Old and Marisa Parker will share their true family stories with Southern Downs residents.

In Back of Beyond, Jenny tells the story of how she and her husband Rick battled the elements and natural disasters in Queensland’s Gulf of Carpentaria region to turn their property, McAllister, into a thriving business and much-loved home. Marisa’s books Goodbye to Italia and Ciao! We’re in Africa tells the coming-of-age story of her parents as they survived World War II prisoner of war camps and their adventures seeking fortune in South Africa and what is now Zimbabwe.

Councillor for Finance, Governance and the Arts Jo McNally said the books provide wonderful insights into aspects of history that local residents may not have encountered before. “I am delighted that these talented authors have decided to visit the Southern Downs and share their unique life stories with our residents,” she said. “I encourage all local residents to attend and hear what the incredible lives of these women and their families can teach us about history.”

The event will begin at 10:30am and SDRC will provide refreshments. All residents interested in attending the event are asked to RSVP.
