Miles artist Patricia Hinz has won the Regional Artists Exhibition People’s Choice Award for her word Sticks and Stones, Leaves and Bones, announced at Chinchilla’s Lapunyah Art Gallery on Friday 26 October. Patricia had also won the Installer’s Award for her mixed media work As the Sun Rises.

The Regional Artists Exhibition is hosted by the Western Downs Regional Council, curated by an outside curator, showcasing Western Downs artists to the community and visitors to the region. With the legacy of a professionally produced exhibition catalogue, complete with curatorial essay, the profile of participating artists can be raised beyond the regions borders. This publication also performs as a promotional tool for artists in furthering their arts practice.

This year, artists were encouraged to explore the values of light and shade, any subject, with no limits – no light, low light, directional light, 2D or 3D work. Artists were encouraged to submit up to four artworks, all of which were represented in the curator’s exhibition selection.

The total prize money on offer for the Awards was $2150, with first prize winning $1000.
