The Toowoomba Turf Club (TTC) has announced the appointment of Chris Nation as the Racecourse Manager of Clifford Park.
Mr Nation joins the TTC with more than eight years’ experience in sports turf having held track manager positions at Patinack Farm’s training centre in Canungra and the latest at Shoalhaven City Turf Club in Nowra, New South Wales. Last year, Mr Nation was awarded the Anco Turf Racetrack Event Education Award, staged in conjunction with the Australian Racecourse Managers Association (ARMA). This award provided a unique opportunity for Chris to work alongside Michael Goodie, the Victoria Racing Club’s racecourse manager, for the week of the Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington to gain valuable skills and experience.
Chris Nation stated that accepting the position of Clifford Park’s Racecourse Manager was an easy decision. “Clifford Park has a lot of potential and my aim is to have the track at its optimum which will put the Toowoomba Turf Club on the map,” Mr Nation said. “My goal is to attract the bigger named trainers up the hill and on a regular basis. I am excited to accept the challenge and I look forward to working with the team.”
TTC Chief Executive Officer Blair Odgers stated that an extensive recruitment search was conducted to ensure the ideal applicant was found. “Mr Nation was identified as possessing the qualified skill set to ensure the sustained success of the race track into the future,” Mr Odgers said. “Racing Queensland’s Warren Williams and Bill Shuck have provided the best advice and assistance over the past three months and will continue to work with Chris to ensure the best possible upkeep of our highest valued asset,” Mr Odgers ended.
Chris has relocated from St Georges Basin to Toowoomba and commences at Clifford Park today.
