The Nine Network, together with affiliate partner Southern Cross Austereo, is celebrating its first year in regional broadcasting following the launch of the Nine News Darling Downs bulletin.

Nine News Darling Downs has kept Toowoomba, Kingaroy, Dalby, Warwick and neighbouring areas up to date with the latest in local news, sport and weather every week night since its first broadcast on 14 August 2017.

Director of Regional News for the Nine Network Mike Dalton said the one-hour bulletin has been well received in Darling Downs, bringing local residents the latest news, together with national and international coverage from the renowned Nine News brand. “We are thrilled to be celebrating one year of regional broadcasting in Queensland. In just 12 months we have created a quality news bulletin for regional Queensland that has captured an already strong yet growing audience,” Dalton said.

The Darling Downs service was the sixth in a series of news bulletins rolled out across regional Queensland, in one of the biggest expansions of television news operations in Australia. The 6pm regional bulletins, dedicated to topical news with a strong focus on the surrounding community, are anchored by co-presenters Samantha Heathwood and Paul Taylor, with Nicole Rowles on weather and Paul Murphy presenting sport. The team have already gained popularity with viewers, overtaking WIN News within its first year on air.

Nine News Regional Queensland has created more than 50 jobs since launching these bulletins, which are compiled and presented with the help of an on-ground team made up of reporters, producers, camera operators and technicians living in each region.
