Active in sports and cultural pursuits while maintaining a high academic standard, Kate Neale has taken a well rounded approach to her education at Downlands College.

Guided by her philosophy of working hard and to the best of her abilities, Kate has received academic awards every year since commencing at Downlands in Year 8. In 2018, Kate received an Academic Excellence Award for the highest results in Year 11. In 2017, Kate was presented with a University Medal after recording the highest ICAS English Exam result in Queensland.

Kate’s work ethic shines and after extraordinary success in debating and later winning the College’s premier oratory award in 2018, she is now training to be an adjudicator. Her recent participation in the Australian Music Examinations Board exam, won her a High Distinction in Drama and Performance Grade 7 and an Honours in Speech and Performance Theory Grade 5. As a member of the Downlands scriptwriting group which wrote the 2019 College Play, Imprint, Kate is looking forward to working as Assistant Director for this year’s performance. Her abiding interest in Biology and Chemistry have piqued her interest in a career in Allied Health, such as Occupational Therapy or Speech Pathology. Meanwhile, she is pursuing a Speech Diploma with the AMEB. Kate believes that balance is extremely important as well as taking responsibility for one’s learning and relationships. This aligns with the College commitment to developing its students as well rounded individuals, nurturing each student not just academically, but as a whole person.
