Grand Central Shopping Centre has shared its fashion tips to create the perfect race day outfit ahead of this year’s Weetwood Cup.

Laser Clinics Australia Owner and event sponsor Amanda Thurbin said Darling Downs race goers are known for their style, and she is excited to see the fashions on the day.

“My own connection with racing made my decision to sponsor the event easy and so much more personal,” Ms Thurbin said. “My grandfather and father bred and trained racehorses and I have fond childhood memories of going to country race meetings in the region. Going to Clifford Park was always the best fun, and watching our own horses run and occasionally win there was such a thrill.”

Autumn fashion trends are seeing dramatic reds, dusty pinks and earthy tones coming into popularity.

Choose a fiery red to weave into a race day outfit, or more subtle tones of berry, wine, or burgundy. Dreamy shades of pink are now practically considered a neutral in the fashion industry, while earthy colours work well as a soft backdrop for bolder colours such as black or red.

Made for the comfort queen, the block midi heel is on trend this season, encouraging flat fanatics to adventure into the world of heels. To keep an outfit modern, choose a block heel with an open toe and delicate straps, or for added interest, go for a strap with heavy gold hardware to add extra edge to the look.

Colour blocking is one of fashion’s inescapable trends, and despite the temperatures cooling down, the brighter the colour blocking, the better. Alongside colour pops, metallics are sticking around with gold being a stand out accessory.

Where makeup is concerned, Mecca Head of Education Jacob Stanley recommends choosing a look and products that will not need to be touched up throughout an all day event.

“Start with the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer which makes all of your makeup (yes, all of it, including powder) resistant to water – meaning sweat, tears, humidity and even rain won’t be a problem. And it’s also got an SPF of 15 to protect you from the Queensland sun. Use a thin layer all over your face and eyes before proceeding to the rest of the face,” said Jacob.

Using a soft lip colour will be low maintenance during a day of sipping champagne and nibbling canapes, while a setting spray will ensure makeup is locked in place.
