Rowan Lee caught her first glimpse of the Granite Belt when she was five years old, and has been in love with the region ever since. “My family first camped at Girraween National Park when I was five,” Rowan said. “Fifty years later, my family and I are still making frequent trips to the Granite Belt to recharge our batteries, enjoy great food and wine, and simply relax.

I love the climate of the Granite Belt and I have wonderful memories of visiting producers with my children to taste icecream and jams after a good walk in the National Park.”

For years, Rowan wondered how she could combine her love for the Granite Belt and her life in Brisbane with a business. In 2016, she founded Harrow and Finch Fine Hampers, a business that features products made from the finest fruits and vegetables of the Granite Belt and provides them to clients who are passionate about good food. “With so many talented producers in the Granite Belt, I decided to focus on food because I have fond memories of enjoying the local produce with family and friends,” Rowan said. “I feature the family favourites we’ve enjoyed for years, like the The Bramble Patch, Jamworks Gourmet Foods and Mt Stirling Olives.”

She also includes producers she’s recently discovered at local markets and events like Jumpers and Jazz in July. “I’m now excited to stock New England Larder, Chilli in Stanthorpe, Cypress Ridge Produce, Mr Stirling Olives, and Vivienne’s Cottage at Mount Tully,” Rowan said. “Producers who grow and use their own products are a real hit with me. There’s so much risk involved for growers with hail, wild storms, fires, drought and floods to contend with. But they have a passion for the region and what they grow, so I want to support them.”

These local companies create such delicacies as blood orange marmalade, kalamata olives in raspberry vinegar and rosemary, eggplant kassoundi, and caramelised balsamic vinegar. Items are chosen for the hampers only after extensive tastings and discussions with the producers, ensuring that each hamper features the best products possible.

“It’s important to me to ask producers which products their customers enjoy the most,” Rowan said. “I’ve also received countless recommendations over the years and requests to bring particular products home to Brisbane. I also can’t go past the unique products that can’t be found elsewhere.”

Harrow and Finch Fine Hampers is available for delivery throughout Australia and around the world. Each hamper is beautifully presented and carefully packaged so every item arrives safely at its destination.

Rowan only sells products that she herself uses and loves. The chilli and lime dipping sauce is perfect with cold prawns and the pear and ginger paste is splendid with a cheese platter. For a refreshing drink she adds verjuice to ice cold soda water, and for dinner spreads caramelised capsicum and chilli on a pizza base, then tops it with smoked chicken, bocconcini, and torn basil leaves.
