We sat down with local CEO Ruth Wetmore of Tourism Darling Downs to see what she likes best about the Downs …

What do you like most about the Darling Downs region?

I love our high country natural beauty, our exquisite farm to table cuisine – and the generosity of the Darling Downs people.

Who inspires you?

My chairman John Wagner – and the vision and generosity of the Wagner family. I am here because I wanted to be part of the incredible energy and development in the Darling Downs. The region inspires me.

What’s one thing you wish more people knew about the Darling Downs region?

Its exquisite natural beauty, the country hospitality, and the absolute diversity of world-class experiences we offer, under sunny skies.

Favourite foodie haunt in the Downs region?

I have so many. Emeraude in the hamlet of Hampton is spectacular. Amanda’s celebration of our stunning regional produce in her cuisine takes my breath away, and makes me very proud.

This winter, I will be spending more time …

Rugging up, enjoying the changing seasons on the Darling Downs, long walks and wood fires. A trip to the Bunyas … Oh, and great food and wine is a given.

The best way to unwind after a busy week?

Quiet dinners with friends, long walks and good music.

Ultimate holiday destination?

Queensland – we are beautiful one day, perfect the next …
