The Maranoa Regional Council will host the Australian Livestock Markets Association (ALMA) National Expo in Roma next year, in what will be the Roma Saleyards 50th year of operation.

The expo will incorporate the ALMA Annual General Meeting (AGM) and will be an opportunity for saleyard and lairage owners and operators to visit Roma, participate in a tour of Roma Saleyards during its redevelopment works, as well as touring beef enterprises within the Maranoa region. Councillor Peter Flynn, Portfolio Chair for Roma Saleyards said Council is thrilled to have the opportunity to show those in the livestock industry what Roma and the Maranoa has to offer. “This is a great achievement for Council and the Roma Saleyards, especially with 2019 being Roma Saleyards 50th year of operation,” said Cr Flynn. “We are looking forward to hosting this special event. 2019 is set to be a busy and exciting year for the Roma Saleyards.”

ALMA is the national peak body that represents and promotes the interests of saleyard and lairage owners and operators. Members of ALMA provide livestock exchanges to more than 1200 stock and station agents and thousands of livestock producers. The organisation was created in 2010 and addresses key issues that have potential to impact on the viability of the saleyard and lairage industry. The annual conference and expo allows stakeholders to network within the industry. The date of the 2019 ALMA Expo is yet to be finalised, however it will be held in July 2019.
