Amber Edser, Leia Freeman and Joshua Waterfall are academics at heart, with an innate interest in technology. The Toowoomba Christian College Year 11 students, who combined call themselves Luminate, recently won the inaugural Mayor’s Telstra Technology Award. Countless hours of hard work paid off, with the team progressing their award-winning idea for developing an App called Illuminate to help young people manage and monitor their anxiety.
With a keen interest in humanity, Joshua hopes to study a dual degree in Arts and Social Science at The University of Queensland after graduating from the College. He intends to pursue international relations and human development to work overseas and is currently completing a USQ Headstart program in Anthropology.
Amber dreams of pursuing a career in Medicine, hoping to complete a dual degree in Nursing and Paramedics. She aims to become a surgeon one day, and is currently completing a Dental Assistant Traineeship Certificate III. She enjoys helping people while being challenged personally.
Leia has her sights set on becoming a police officer or following a career in early learning to become a primary school teacher.
