Charities and community groups in Toowoomba will receive a share in $87,500 from Toowoomba’s Christmas Wonderland with more than 85,500 people attending the 2018 light show.

Announced at the Toowoomba’s Christmas Wonderland Thank You Function on Wednesday 13 February, the funds raised from the 2018 event will go back into helping the local community through the events three main beneficiaries. The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation, The Toowoomba Hospice and Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland each received $27,500 with the remaining $5000 to be shared between a number of small community groups.

The 2018 event marked a milestone occasion with Toowoomba’s Christmas Wonderland welcoming its $1 millionth-dollar donated, making a grand total of $1,036,500 raised across the 16 years of the events history. Toowoomba’s Christmas Wonderland Project Chair Marshall Cox said this year’s outstanding result would not have been possible without the support of the events sponsors, volunteers and supporters. “This year was a milestone year for us, which wouldn’t have been made possible without the small army of dedicated sponsors and volunteers who’ve continued to support Toowoomba’s Christmas Wonderland throughout the years,” he said.

“The Lions Club of Toowoomba West and my fellow committee members work tirelessly each year to make the event bigger, better and more magical for our community. Seeing such a wonderful fundraising result is incredible and makes our efforts all worthwhile. We’re incredibly proud to have raised a total of $87,500 at last years event and look forward to seeing our major and minor beneficiaries put it to good use throughout the community who’ve supported us from the very beginning.”
