Centenary Heights State High School was crowned champion the winners of The Darling Downs Science and Engineering Challenge, with the event taking place at the Refectory at The University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba from 21 to 24 May.
The Science and Engineering challenge gave students the opportunity to engage in a set of fun and competitive activities involving principles of science, engineering and technology. They provided students with a challenge to complete and a selection of materials to complete the set challenge. The students were immediately engaged in the challenge with minimum theory provided, which allowed them to explore scientific principles for themselves as opposed to being guided to a predetermined answer.
Across the four days, there were eight different schools and 1000 students who competed against one another. Centenary Heights State High School were the Day four winners ahead of St Peter Claver College, St Ursula’s College, Clifton State High School, Oakey State High School, Toowoomba Christian College, Downlands College and Laidley State High School. Centenary Heights State High School also claimed the highest score of the week, earning them the Darling Downs trophy allowing them to go on to compete in the State Final ‘Super Challenge’.
