The Wagners’ privately owned Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport has been announced as a finalist in the 2016 AustCham Shanghai Westpac Australia-China Business Awards in the Business Excellence Award for Construction, Infrastructure and Natural Resources category, as well as for the Business Excellence Award for a Start-up Enterprise.
Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise CEO Dr Ben Lyons said, “The airport is a unique business that is proactively engaging in the Chinese marketplace and it’s very exciting to have probably one of the only ever Toowoomba-based businesses nominated in the awards.
“The airport is in Australia but what they have already achieved, particularly in the development of agricultural exports into Asia, will be viewed favourably by the judges, who are looking for businesses who already have a strategy with China in place,” he said.
Airport General Manager Phil Gergory said, “This is a big coup for us. We are committed to working closely with Asia and to receive this kind of nomination within two years of operations is fantastic.”
The award winners will be announced at a gala dinner—expected to be attended by Australian State and Federal politicians—in Shanghai on April 13.
