Celebrity chef Alastair McLeod has been announced the culinary star at the Maranoa Food and Fire Festival on Saturday, 12 August.

The chef, television personality and food ambassador for the Lockyer Valley region will be leading cooking demonstrations during the festival.

Known for his roles in Network 10’s Ready Steady Cook and Channel Seven’s Great Day Out, Alastair will discuss and demonstrate through his cooking why good food is simple food.

“Food for me is about context. This empathy for ‘time and place’ enhances a dining experience. Meeting the farmers, growers and producers of the Maranoa and creating dishes with their produce will be a privilege,” said McLeod.

“I wholeheartedly believe that there is no correlation between how complicated a dish is and how delicious it can be.

My cooking is a celebration of the produce and our primary producers and not tricky, fiddly cooking. That, for me, is the cornerstone of good cooking.”

Alastair will showcase some of the region’s top produce, including grass fed cuts from local supplier, Maranoa Beef.

The event will take place at the Roma Big Rig Parklands from 3 to 9 pm.
