In your not-so-average 50th birthday celebration, Proston lot feeders, Don and Barb Madden, will be taking on the New York City Marathon on November 1 and are searching for a charity to support along the way. Although the duo have never previously run a marathon, Barb thought this would be a memorable way to mark Don’s milestone birthday… and memorable it has been. Rather than the little challenge she anticipated, Barb has described the experience as a life-changing event. With preparations well under way, she declared the 12-week training program their new way of life.

The 3:30am mornings and 35km runs before work have been worthy challenges all in the name of charity. In their inspiring pursuit, the pair has raised $3000 through sponsorship by Feed Central, Ken Mills Machinery and Smithfield Cattle Co. Keeping the local flavour of the project, the couple intend to donate the funds and are subsequently urging all not-for-profit community organisations based in the South Burnett region to let them know how they would put the money to good use. “We all thought this money would be better utilised by donating it to a community group within the South Burnett,” said Barb.
