When interior designer Tarlie B began renovations on a Campbell Street home, she had no idea its history spanned nearly 100 years. The Certificate of Title for the house stated that Thomas Roberts purchased the land on the 26 August 1924.
Thomas and Ivy Grace Roberts built a home on the land and raised June, Patricia, and Hillary at the Campbell Street property. Ivy was born on the farm Bendee Downs near the rural Queensland town of Bollon. She married Thomas who was the son of a local politician. Thomas was highly regarded and known for his love of music. During WWII, he was chosen to be an amenities officer in Papua New Guinea. Upon his return, he worked as an insurance salesman and then as the secretary at a Golf Club. He passed away in his early 50s after suffering a large coronary.
The home was then sold to Stanley Boulton, he only lived there for a short time before selling it to Albert (Hart) and Helen Kennedy in the 1950s for 5000 pounds. The current owners of the house met Hart after he drove by the house one Sunday afternoon. Joanne Craig-Havern, who currently owns the property, invited Hart in for tea and to discuss the history of the property. Hart was a chiropractor and ran his business from the home.
After Hart and Helen Kennedy, the house was bought by Wayne and Jenny Stephens in January 1985. The Stephens transformed the verandah and ensuite bathroom to how it looks today. Finally, the Stephens sold the house to Stephen Joanne Craig-Havern in September 2018.
Joanne hired Tarlie B Designs to make cosmetic changes to the home but ensured to maintain and respect the heritage of the property.
