Quality produce from Toowoomba region will be showcased in Shanghai, China this week at the China Global Food and Hospitality Expo (FHC). Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE) is assisting local businesses to showcase their protein food products at the FHC China Expo, focused on exposing international suppliers and manufacturers to Chinese markets. Toowoomba region products being showcased include organic wheat flours from Kialla Pure Foods, soy flours from PB Agrifood and a number of flavoured cooking oils from Proteco Oils.
Kialla Pure Foods managing director Quentin Kennedy said while Kialla currently exports their products to five Asian countries, they are yet to reach the Chinese market, and see potential to expand their export capabilities with this a prime opportunity to put their best foot forward. “We see exports as a growth area for our business,” Mr Kennedy said. “Of course the domestic market will continue to grow, but export will contribute in large part to our overall growth.”
“China is on our radar – this is the perfect opportunity to test the waters.”
Kialla Pure Foods is one of the largest organic cereal grain processing operations in Australia, and Mr Kennedy sees the FHC China Expo as a good vehicle to promote Australian cereal grain products internationally. The Expo, running from November 12 to14, is expected to attract 1820 companies from more than 70 countries, with the event gathering nearly 34,000 trade visitors in 2013.
TSBE General Manager for Agribusiness and Export Jo Sheppard said the exhibition continues TSBE’s work in pursuing protein food product opportunities in emerging Chinese markets for businesses in the region.
