Graduating Year 12 from Our Lady of the Southern Cross in 2018 was the pinnacle of a long and successful educational journey for Daniel Gillespie.
Attending Southern Cross from Prep to Year 12,Β Danielβs final year at the college saw him maintainΒ and capitalise on his success in previous years.Daniel was the Dux of the college, as well as Sportsperson of the Year in 2018, and also received the Our Lady of the Southern Cross Award.
On the sporting field, Daniel was selected as a shadow for the State Open Schoolboys Touch Team, and co-captained the College Confraternity Rugby League Team. Making the most of his school years, Daniel enjoyed several extra curricular activities and encourages other students to do the same. βBe involved in as many activities as you can when you are young and have the time,β he said.
Continuing his education this year, Daniel has been accepted into a Bachelor of Biomedical Science course at The University of Queensland, with hopes of pursuing a career in Medicine. Daniel was among a cohort of successful Our Lady of the Southern Cross students, with 15 per cent of graduates last year achieving an OP between 1 and 5. All Year 12 students received a Queensland Certificate of Education and one student completed Year 11 and 12 concurrently in 2018. Prior to graduation a number of students received guaranteed placements at University of Sunshine Coast and The University of Queensland.
