In a move to encourage more Queenslanders to make the Southern Downs region their home, local council have launched the ‘Welcome to The Southern Downs’ initiative at the Allora show, a two-part package providing new residents with essential information about their new community.
The package includes information about facts and stories about Southern Downs, local activities available in the area, information on schools, medical and other services, recreation, sports fields, bushfire preparedness and emergency contacts. In addition, the package also offers new residents with vouchers redeemable for product and services discounts at a variety of locations in the region.
Mayor Peter Blundell said that a large number of businesses were getting on board with the new initiative with at least “12 Warwick and 13 Stanthorpe based businesses are offering discounts with total potential value of $4000”.
Offers within the package cover a wide array of products and services including food discounts, home decoration products and installations, white goods rental and delivery, storage services, personal fitness, beauty and motor vehicle products and services.
According to Mayor Blundell, the idea for the initiative arose from feedback provided by previous new residents and businesses in the area.
Packages will be available for collection from real estate offices, Council, websites, and social media, with discount voucher booklets issued to new residents who provide their signed contract of sale or a six month lease document to Council’s Community Contact Centre staff.
