Johnny Cash Country Festival
Stanthorpe is saddling up again for the third year of this sensational music festival, this year with a re-boot of the widely applauded format from the past two years. Inspiration for this unique festival of music came from a fascinating secret, Johnny Cash would regularly hangout in Stanthorpe for a few weeks at a time throughout the 1980s and 90s. So, of course, this tribute festival to The Man in Black was an immediate hit in its first year, especially with the locals.
But last year, audiences were bolstered by an eager contingent of curious out-of-towners, from as far away as Brisbane, Toowoomba and a host of other Southern Downs towns, who made a weekend of it, in very welcoming Stanthorpe. This year’s event expands on the successful formats of past years, but with major performances on both days. “It’s bigger and it’s better than the enthusiastically applauded events of 2017/2018”, commented one of the event’s promoters. Friday night’s surprise, special concert is hosted by the International Club. Saturday’s festival of music returns to The Main Stage in the under-cover Pavilion at Stanthorpe Showground, rolling out a particular focus on the very popular Johnny Cash, June Carter-Cash classics. All star performers are nationally acclaimed and showcase a broad repertoire of the Country/Western/Americana genre.
