Dalby State School excels in music and sport, and year 6 students Gabrielle Fernandez and Indigo Rennie prove their success in these two fields.

Commencing her education at DSS in January 2015, Gabrielle (Gabby) has contributed greatly to the music and performing arts field. She is a member of the school’s Music Program of Excellence and performs in the Concert and Stage Bands, Senior Singers and Western Downs Winds. Additionally, she played the part of Rafiki in the 2019 school musical, The Lion King Jr, moving the audience with her beautiful singing voice. Gabby was a member of the Choir which won Choral Fanfare 2019 and has been involved in other school musicals during her time at Dalby State School. She has also been involved in many community events such as the annual Eisteddfod and Delicious and DeLIGHTful Festival and is part of the Dalby State School Student Leadership Team.

Indigo started at DSS in 2018, and since then has made the team for Darling Downs Girls Rugby League Team, Bunya Districts Team for touch football, athletics and rugby league and the DSS touch football, athletics, rugby league and cross country. She won age champion for athletics and 100m sprints. One of the highlights of her rugby league career so far has been meeting Andrew McCullough from the Brisbane Broncos who was a former student of DSS. Indigo believes you should always try your best, give 100 per cent and never give up.
