Sad news has been received today for Toowoomba’s restaurant industry. The iconic Weis Restaurant has announced they are closing their doors on 1st March. A combination of economic factors and the limitations for expansion and diversifying the business have been identified as the major contributing factors. The restaurant’s plan to build a permanent function marquee has been knocked back by council, something that could have added to their business model to continue on in today’s fickle restaurant industry. In a media statement released today, management of the restaurant have made it clear that the business is not being liquidated; all creditors will be paid in full, all staff benefits will be paid and all gift vouchers will be honoured or refunded. Those who have organised weddings and functions there in the future have all been contacted by management.

Since opening in August 1968, Weis Restaurant has offered locals a truly elegant setting at the top of the range. Famous for its generous buffets, fresh seafood and family roast dinners, it was ahead of its time in the beginning and has remained a firm favourite thereafter.

The media statement offered a sentimental vote of thanks: “The owners and management would like to sincerely thank their loyal customers, staff and friends who have supported them over their many years of trading.” Those who wish to dine at this local favourite for the last time should book in quickly to say farewell.
