The Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is inviting the community to comment on draft floodplain risk management measures over the next few weeks. A region-wide flood risk study has recently been completed and has classified Yarraman, Maclagan, Quinalow, Cooyar, Crows Nest, Jondaryan and Oakey as high priority areas requiring further flood analysis risk.

TRC Deputy Mayor and Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Carol Taylor says community feedback is valuable. “We are now seeking community feedback on these measures. The community can provide feedback in writing, over the phone and in person until 5pm on Tuesday 14 May 2019,” she said.

TRC Deputy Mayor and Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Carol Taylor said the measures had been developed to help protect communities in the Toowoomba Region from flooding. “Council is committed to the goal of a safer, stronger, more resilient region by continuing to improve flood risk management,” she said. “Community feedback will be used to guide the development of a final set of floodplain mitigation measures for each community which Council will then consider.”

As an essential next step, the Council has developed a Floodplain Risk Management Plan for each community. These plans contain flood risk management measures designed to reduce flood risk in each community.
