Wallabies player and Downlands College alum Garrick Morgan is returning to the school as Director of Rugby in 2016. Garrick brings international experience to the role in addition to his time in the Wallabies, having played for the English Harlequins and France’s Secton Paloise team.
More recently he has held positions as both Director of Coaching for the Gold Coast Breakers and Forwards Coach for the Premiers.
As Director of Rugby at Downlands, Garrick will run regular clinics and is always on the look out for new talent. He especially wants to encourage more girls to play the sport.
Downlands College Principal Stephen McIllhatton says he had high hopes for this new appointment.
“Our mission is to continue what legendary coach, John Elders, did at Downlands many years ago,” McIllhaton said.
But the aim certainly isn’t to buy talent Mr McIllhatton said. “We want to make champions’ teams from normal kids – both boys and girls. This is what good teachers do.”
