Year 9 student Genevieve Dean is now three years into her boarding experience at The Glennie School and loving it. Genevieve is the eldest of three siblings, with a younger brother also boarding in Toowoomba and youngest brother now in Prep close to home. Genevieve’s parents are mango farmers from Gin Gin who also sell and export high quality dried fruits from locally grown produce.

With an ambition to pursue her own interests in business and/or medicine after school, Genevieve admits her favourite subjects are accounting and science, with a particular love of biology. Last semester, Genevieve was awarded a Gold Academic Award, the highest accolade for academia in Middle School. Another academic highlight this year was being selected to represent the school for the Da Vinci Decathlon. “This is the third year I’ve attended the competition and I love the teamwork aspect of challenges. This year, we were awarded third place in both the Science and Cartography categories,” said Genevieve.

Outside the classroom, Genevieve enjoys spending her time playing tennis, futsal and netball. Her confidence in music has blossomed and she is a valued member of the Middle Years Choir, Youth Jazz Ensemble and String Ensemble. “I am so grateful my parents allowed me to learn and board in Toowoomba; the experience has been amazing,” said Genevieve.
