Grand Central Shopping Centre - Toowoomba - Highlife Downs Living

Grand Central is currently going through a $500 million redevelopment of their retail galleria. The retail galleria is part of the Stage One launch, which will take place later this year.

“The new galleria malls will deliver an extension of Grand Central’s existing fashion offering, and will feature retail precincts including classic contemporary fashion and urban youth style,” the Centre manager, Shaine Beveridge, explained.

The redevelopment represents a true Toowoomba experience. Mr Beveridge explained the reasoning behind the design: the interiors express the charm and character of Toowoomba, drawing from the surrounding environment to create an enhanced shopping experience. The exterior utilises civic architecture, and the tradition of masonry and stone buildings have been upheld. The use of natural materials, light and space reflects the Toowoomba region’s urban environment.

The overall refurbishment will enhance amenities including the lift finishes, ceiling profiles, floor terrazzo and lighting. The new galleria will house close to 60 retailers, and the stores’ fit outs will be beginning soon. Due to the new retailers opening in the galleria the current retail tenant shopfronts will be heightened in order to create cohesion between the operational centre and the new developments.

“There is plenty of excitement from the new retailers coming to Toowoomba for the first time, and the calibre of brands demonstrates the strength of the Grand Central development.

“In what will be exciting news to people in the region, many of these stores are new to the Toowoomba market.

“Residents will no longer have to drive down the range to access new and exciting retail brands – they’ll be here within our local community,” Mr Beveridge said.

The redevelopment is progressing well, and the first stage should be on schedule to open later this year. Mr Beveridge explained, “We have been advised by Probuild there are now around 400 workers on site as construction continues to ramp up. The first level of the structural steel bridge over Victoria Street is complete, foundations for the shopping centre and car park basement are also now completed, and Dent Street has reopened underneath the new galleria.”

Keep your eyes and ears out for more information of this Stage One launch and the exciting new retailers for Grand Central coming soon.
