On May 17 the local Hampton community gathered together with visitors from near and far for the Hampton Festival. The festival celebrates the abundance of produce and the creative spirit of the region.
Event organiser, Kerri Seccombe, attributes the location and small village feel to the success. “Sitting on top of the GDR, we have the fresh country air, the setting is beautiful and creative things happen here,” she says. “It’s a relaxed area and has a great community feel.”
Headlining the festival this year were guest speakers Rohan Anderson and Kate Berry (pictured above with Highlife Editorial Manager Alice Thompson on the left). This couple is passionate about health, self-sufficiency, DIY produce growing and disconnecting from the poor health of a modern lifestyle.
Anderson is the author of the hugely popular blog, ‘Whole Larder Love’, while his partner Kate runs the equally inspiring blog, ‘Lunch Flavour’. Celebrity chef Dominique Rizzo (above) took the stage, alongside Queensland Food Fellow Alison Alexander, to show festival-goers a thing or two about creating healthy, fresh food with style.
Food stalls served up delicious food on the cool day, keeping bellies full and warm. Local wine producers kept visitors in good spirits and local artisan producers were selling their wares. With fresh produce for sale and live music playing throughout the day, the festival had a wonderful community atmosphere.
