Talented students from Highlands Christian College in Toowoomba will bring Disney’s beloved underwater adventure, The Little Mermaid, to the stage this month (February).
Despite a lengthy postponement due to Covid-19 restrictions, the musical is set to be performed in the college’s Multipurpose Centre on February 18, 19 and 20. Musical director Ben Tiller said the 40 cast members had been rehearsing for months, and were excited to finally perform in front of a live audience. “The show is coming together nicely, and we’re keen for everyone to see the results of our hard work,” he said. “This is the perfect show for families and those who love Disney; it’s a fun adventure story with some deep themes and inspiring life lessons.”
The musical is based on the famous Hans Christian Andersen tale about 16-year-old mermaid Ariel, who is captivated by the world upon the surface. When she falls in love with a human prince, she makes a deal with a villainous sea witch to become human herself, and earn his love before the agreed time runs out. It features award-winning music by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, with much-loved songs including Part of Your World, Under the Sea, Poor Unfortunate Souls and Kiss the Girl.
Disney’s The Little Mermaid will be performed on February 18 at 7pm, February 19 at 7pm, and February 20 at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are available for the public through TryBooking here.
