Singer songwriter Josh Arnold has written and produced a song and music video titled ‘Kilkivan, a Little Piece of Heaven’.
The release comes after Small Town Culture, a record label dedicated to creating music and film which celebrates the life and spirit of those living in country Australia, with the support of the University of Southern Queensland, put the call out to remote communities to participate in the ‘Australian Regional Community Competition’.
The small town of Kilkivan, which is home to just 690 people, won the competition with 3000 votes on Facebook.
Kilkivan is nestled in the South Burnett region, just off of the Wide Bay Highway and west of Gympie. The town is famous for its annual ‘Great Horse Ride’ which sees more than 1000 horses and riders travel up to 30 kilometres along parts of the Bicentennial National Trail, to the main street of Kilkivan for the Grand Parade. Josh said that the process of writing the song has been like “…piecing together a giant jigsaw puzzle.”
“I had so much material from everyone, I could have written five songs,” he added. With an upbeat, catchy melody and lyrics which evoke the history, people and spirit of the small country town, ‘Kilkivan, a Little Piece of Heaven’, is sure to be a hit. Kilkivan locals star in the video, which is expected to be viewed by more than 10,000 people. The song will be distributed to over 400 radio stations across Australia, in June.
