BVN Architecture in Toowoomba is amongst four local companies shortlisted to design the $250 million North Queensland Stadium. BVN Architecture, Cox Architecture, Hassell Ltd and Populous have been offered an opportunity to submit a concept design and site masterplan, as part of the design project announced by the Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Dr Anthony Lynham.

BVN Architecture in Toowoomba was founded more than 90 years ago, and is the architectural expert behind the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre,and the State Netball Centre in Brisbane.

A specialist in sports architecture, the Cox Architecture group is currently designing the Queensland State Velodrome in Brisbane, and the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre for the upcoming 2018 Commonwealth Games. Leading design practice Hassell Ltd is the principal consultant for the new Perth Stadium, set to seat 60,000 sports fans. Populous has housed its Asia Pacific headquarters in Brisbane, and has been designing award-winning stadiums for 30 years. All four design companies have strong histories and experience in sports architecture.

Dr Lynham says the shortlisted companies have also included more than 20 local companies to participate in the project as part of their design submissions. The chosen company will be announced by the end of 2016.
