Clovelly Estate is our answer to a French provincial getaway, offering a luxurious and elegant accommodation, set in beautiful and rambling gardens, with a two hatted in-house restaurant.

Located in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Clovelly Estate is part of the Spicers Retreats group of resorts. Construction has just been completed on a new large deck overlooking Lake Baroon. The addition of a fire pit has created a place for guests to keep warm on cool nights while enjoying some star gazing and a nightcap outdoors.

Designed as an idyllic escape, the retreat is set within 22 acres of tended gardens and rolling green lawns, encouraging guests to relax and unwind while they take in the beautiful scenery. Day trips to surrounding destinations like Mapleton Falls, the Glass House Mountains, or the hinterland towns of Maleny and Montville are simple from the retreat, as is a day spent languishing at the day spa, or enjoying the beautiful rooms and grounds.

With its French provincial atmosphere in this quintessential Queensland setting, the two-hatted restaurant, The Long Apron, makes the perfect setting for a long weekend lunch. With the gardens’ signature jacarandas in bloom, spring is a beautiful time to make a trip to this Montville gem. Head chef at The Long Apron, Cameron Matthews, has been in the business for more than 20 years.

When asked to define the style of cooking at The Long Apron, Matthews says, “It used to be modern European, but it has evolved from that. I’m hoping in five years time we’ll have defined a new style of cooking.”

The Long Apron plucks ingredients and inspiration from the 22 acres that surrounds it.  With other dishes like buffalo milk curd, apple & rhubarb broth, propolis, birch, juniper bread , Mooloolaba spanner crab, roasted, pickled, fried & puréed celeriac, hazelnuts  and aged amazake creamed rice, tweed vanilla, strawberries, wild olive, muscatel vinegar,  it is clear to see the food on offer is carefully composed, delightfully fresh and has a strong emphasis on local ingredients. Creative dishes like these, along with the unique and relaxing atmosphere of the restaurant, have seen The Long Apron retain its two hats in the 2016 Good Food Guide Awards, as well as being ranked in the Top 100 Australian restaurants by The Australian Gourmet Traveller magazine.

Accommodation options at Clovelly Estate range from beautiful private rooms for a couple, to the three-bedroom French Cottage, perfect for a group of friends or family. The French Cottage has just seen the addition of an outdoor spa, to add a bit of extra luxury to the already beautifully appointed space. All rooms at Clovelly Estate are fitted with modern French furnishings, with touches like the finest wool throws, marble benchtops and Bordeaux armchairs added for a luxurious touch. The style is laid back elegance, encouraging a relaxing and sophisticated holiday. While the rooms are understated in their fitout, each is afforded an outdoor seating area, which maximises the enjoyment of sweeping country views and gardens.
