Maranoa visitor numbers are set to climb this year, with Council rolling-out a number of tourist attraction projects and changes to its tourism team.
With Council’s goal to make the Maranoa a ‘must see’ destination amongst travellers, a more focused approach to tourism has been adopted, concentrating on attracting more visitors to the region and encouraging them to stay longer.
Councillor Ree Price Portfolio Chair for Tourism said that she is ecstatic to see new projects coming together to reinvigorate Maranoa tourism.
“These changes have been a priority during this Council’s term, and it is exciting to see projects coming to fruition,” Cr Price said. “One of our goals was to see a Coordinator – Tourism appointed for this financial year – this has been filled by Council’s own Megan Swords, whom we are thrilled to have on board.
By retaining tourists for longer, it allows local businesses to receive the greatest benefit from their stay. This will also assist those businesses and local suppliers to develop a product that will draw visitors and their friends back to the region year after year.
A few key projects Council will be working on this year are:
• Improving Roma’s Big Rig – including a ‘face lift’ for the night show area
• Improving facilities available to assist motorists in navigating and exploring our region – including tourist information billboards and interactive maps of the region
• The Maranoa App which will be available to smart phone users
Council will be working closely with local tourism groups whilst encouraging volunteers to get involved with exciting developments in the near future.
Be sure to keep a look out for more tourism projects and initiatives throughout the Maranoa
