The Soldiers Memorial Hall is looking forward to an update. Toowoomba Regional Council is looking for members of the local community to provide input in a consultation group for the refurbishment of the memorial site.
TRC Property Services Chair, Cr Geoff McDonald said the Soldiers Memorial Hall Community Consultation Group will provide feedback to Council during the project upgrade. “Members of the community, serving and ex-serving members and users of the Soldiers Memorial Hall are encouraged to submit an expression of interest to be part of the community consultation group,” Cr McDonald said. “The feedback of the community consultation group will help the Project Board on a wide range of information about the project including usage requirements, space allocation, heritage restraints and concerns, staging plan priorities and future opportunities.”
Mayor Paul Antonio said the Soldiers Memorial Hall upgrade has always been a long-time goal of the Council for the community to appreciate and gather to pay tribute to those who have served. The heritage-listed memorial building, originally built in 1959 will be undergoing building renovations as well as upgrades to provide access for people with disabilities. “The upgrade will involve a multi-staged refurbishment of the building with the initial stage focusing on the maintenance and repair of the entire building, as well as upgrading the front portion of the building,” Mayor Antonio said. The upgrade of the Soldiers Memorial Hall is funded by the Australian Government through Building Better Regions Fund and Toowoomba Regional Council.
Applications are now open to become apart of the community consultation group and will close Friday 1 November.
