Southern Downs Regional Council is keen to encourage more people to make the Southern Downs region their home, launching a ‘new residents’ welcome kit today at the Allora Show.

Southern Downs Regional Council’s Mayor, Cr Peter Blundell said the idea for the “Welcome to the Southern Downs” initiative arose from feedback from new arrivals and businesses in our beautiful region.

“The “Welcome to the Southern Downs” initiative includes a package, which will be provided to people making the Southern Downs their home, and comprises two distinct parts.

“It has an information booklet showcasing important facts and stories, including local activities, information on schools, medical and other services, recreation, sports fields, bushfire preparedness and emergency contacts.

“The second part offers redeemable vouchers that new residents can use to access discounts for products and services from a variety of businesses and service providers in our region.

“At last count, 12 Warwick and 13 Stanthorpe based businesses are offering discounts with total potential value of $4000,” said the Mayor.

The vouchers cover a range of products and services including fast food and bulk drinking water supplies; healthy living supplies; home decoration products and installations; white goods rental and delivery; removal and bulk storage facilities; personal fitness and beauty services; and motor vehicle products and services.

To claim the vouchers, new residents must present their signed contract of sale or a six month lease document to Council’s Community Contact Centre staff who will then issue the voucher booklet.

The information package will be available at real estate offices, Council, on websites, and social media.
