We sat down with John-Paul Davies, Principal Acupuncturist at New Leaf Clinic, to find out what he likes most about the Downs region.
What do you like most about the Downs region?
I grew up in Toowoomba and Withcott and only recently returned. After living and working in apparently the most liveable destinations such a Melbourne and Montreal Canada, Toowoomba has a lot going for it and seems to have had a huge cultural revamp in recent years. On the gateway to the bush you can rodeo up with bush sports such as campdrafting and polocrosse or you can hipster up with the live music sense.
Favourite foodie haunt in the Downs region?
I have been amazed at how trendy Toowoomba has become. A friend recently took us to Charred in a section of the old Weis Restaurant grounds. How things have changed; we had the chief’s selection which was a set share menu which included a very entertaining waiter who carved up a whole fish on our table. The chef checked to make sure that we were in food heaven during the meal with the only downside being the lack of room for dessert. However, Victoria Hotel in Cecil Plains still has the best rissoles; some things never change.
This Summer, I will be spending more time …
Getting in touch with old friends and hopefully making some new ones. I would like to try out the clay shooting range a Chalton too. The best way to unwind after a busy week? A few laps at the Milne Bay Pool washes away my busy week.
Ultimate holiday destination?
For adventure I often dream about revisiting Green Leaf Hotel in Niseko Japan for skiing, as they have ski in ski out and the best onsen on the mountain. For romantic getaways, Polperro Winery in Victoria’s Mornington peninsula would have top of my list.
