Fairholme College is led by a very capable team of young women including the day girl leader, boarder leader, head girl, sportS leaders and arts leader, AND HOUSE CAPTAINS.
For Hockey Captain Briana Suey and Cameron House Captain Tatum Stewart, 2019 is a year they will never forget. Named as leaders this year they have also both been selected to represent Australia in the Australian Schoolgirls Hockey team and are now competing in Europe. In the lead up to the Europe tour the girls have been training and playing games five days a week, while still fitting in school studies. “It’s been pretty hard for me,” says Briana. “I’ve had to skip some training sessions to catch up on school work.”
Tatum agrees it’s been tough. “I really have made the effort to see my teachers and catch up on work in study groups. We know it’s possible to do it, because there’s been so many talented sportswomen go before us at Fairholme, who have successfully completed Year 12 while realising their sporting dream. I’m just excited to compete against such elite teams. Europe is the home of hockey,” says Tatum. Tatum has been named in the Futuroos side, and plans to continue juggling study and hockey next year, beginning a Bachelor of Education.
Briana also plans to study Teaching, after a year of travel. “I actually want to take a gap year next year now and come over and play for a club,” she said.
