The Spotlights Photographic Competition for Hairdressing took place at The Cube Hotel on Friday 19 October with Toowoomba-based Profile Hair Design winning in several categories.
The night saw the culmination of local hair, beauty and creative industries through their participation in the competition, which is an annual event hosted by TAFE Queensland. The event served as an opportunity for senior hairdressers and apprentices to showcase their skills, imagination and creativity by designing and creating images in one of the five spotlight categories.
Profile Hair Design stood out on the night with team members taking out three of the five competition categories. Katie, a talented apprentice on the Profile team, won the Apprentice Visionary category, with Ami, an artistic senior stylist at Profile, taking out both the Men’s Styling Visionary and Session Styling Visionary categories. The competition allowed participants to get creative with input from other local beauty and fashion businesses playing a major part in the outcome. Dani, an award-winning makeup artist at Toowoomba based salon, Luminosa, worked her magic to create captivating looks to match the bold hairstyles. Ivy Designer Collections provided the models with stunning outfits to elevate their looks which were captured perfectly by local photographer, Morgan Smith from Morgan Journal.
Competitions like this allow artists to showcase, and appreciate, the talent within the local hair industry and give businesses the opportunity to educate and inspire their team. The awards featured and acknowledged makeup artists and photographers in addition to several Toowoomba-based businesses in what was a celebration of the various industries.
