Sam and Luke McCaul started dating in university, where they met through their degree in leisure management. The couple lived together with a friend, but soon moved to Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays when Luke was offered a job at Abel Point Marina. There, their relationship flourished, but as ten years passed without a proposal, Sam started to worry one wouldn’t come. It was only after she caught the bouquet at a friend’s wedding that she began to suspect a proposal was on the horizon.

Luke took her on a spectacular helicopter ride over the Langford Reef, looking onto Hayman Island. After, with breakfast and champagne on the beach, Luke proposed. They travelled to Brisbane to get the diamond set into brilliant white gold.

The couple knew they both wanted a destination wedding, and set to planning a weekend-long event. As family is critical to both, they decided to have their wedding at Sam’s parents’ property, “Mt. Leigh”, in Wallumbilla.

Many of the suppliers in the region contributed to the event. Toowoomba Party Hire provided chairs, lighting and games, Floral Nook in Roma did the flowers, and Brisbane band Twisted Monkeys performed. Perhaps the most locally-sourced item was the cake, baked by Sam’s grandmother.

They relied on DIY for the table settings and general set up, including the plates and artworks that complemented the subtle rustic theme. Table dressings were white with hay-packed bottle centrepieces and timber chairs.

Both the wedding and the happy couple looked spectacular. From Made With Love on the Gold Coast, Sam’s dress was a lacy, elegant, and ivory affair. It had a relaxed feel and fabric, but the best features were the pockets. To have something blue, she wore a pair of Wayne Cooper dusty blue-grey tie-up heels.

Sam’s hair was worn half up and half down with a native floral arrangement in the back, done by Emily at Fred and Holly’s in Toowoomba. Stacey and Cassie from Mirror Mirror, also in Toowoomba, finished the look with elegant make up.

Luke was dressed in a chambray jacket, crisp white shirt, navy pants, and a nude-coloured belt with woven shoes. To top it off, he wore a maroon bow-tie and cut a fine figure beside the bride.

The couple loved celebrating with their 130 guests, especially their close friends and family. Now, they can’t stop watching their wedding video and delighting in the laughs, smiles and happy tears that were shed on the day.

Sam and Luke have recently returned from their honeymoon travelling around Spain in a camper van, after first stopping by Ibiza to celebrate a friend’s wedding along the way.
