Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Cr Peter Blundell said he was pleased to announce that Mr David Keenan has been appointed SDRC Chief Executive Officer, with Mr Keenan commencing in the role on 28 January, 2015. “Mr Keenan brings a great deal of experience to Southern Downs Regional Council, having worked most recently as General Manager for the Australian Forest Contractors Association, and as CEO for Mitchell and Tweed Shire Councils,” he said. “With 20 years experience in local government, David has key achievements in economic development, strategic planning and project delivery. Mr Keenan comes to us with a great deal of enthusiasm and passion for the role. He believes that local government is the key for delivery of services to people. The CEO position is key to ensuring that services meet community expectation and ensure that local communities can thrive and grow into the future.”
In accepting the role, Mr Keenan said, “I am really excited about the opportunity to work with the mayor, councillors, staff and community of the Southern Downs area. I look forward to working collaboratively with the mayor and councillors to achieve the aspirations of the council and engaging with staff across the organisation.”
“My family and I are keen to be actively involved with the community and I personally am keen to connect with the different groups and individuals that are working to make the Southern Downs area a great place to live, work, visit and recreate”, he said. ”In my first three months I hope to meet with as many of these groups and individuals as possible. I hope that my skills and experience gained from working in regional areas will add value to Council, staff and the community”.
