Southern Downs Regional Council has announced that the Stanthorpe Streetscape-Fromes Lane and Rogers Street car park projects are complete and that an official opening will be held on 4 December at 9am. Southern Downs Mayor, Tracy Dobie, and the Councillors will be in attendance.

The Stanthorpe Streetscape-Fromes Lane project is a joint initiative of the Southern Downs Regional Council and the Queensland Government. The finished project improves the aesthetics and accessibility of the Stanthorpe business centre, with a timber arbour, seating, improved lighting, street art, and wall murals.

The existing underground storm water system has been upgraded, increasing flood

immunity to retailers along Maryland Street. The streetscape project was completed using $200,000 provided through the Palaszczuk Government’s Works for Queensland program.

The Rogers Street car park will provide close to 80 additional car parks for the Stanthorpe Central Business District. Council will shortly commence public consultation for the naming of the Rogers Street car park.

The Southern Downs Regional Council and Queensland Government received funding for the car park from the 2016-2017 Grants and Subsidies program. The aim of the 2016-2017 Grants and Subsidies program is to support local governments to deliver key infrastructure projects.

Businesses in the area will benefit from this upgrade to the car park, improving access to and trade for local businesses. It will also allow tourists to spend more time in the Stanthorpe business centre.

Southern Downs Mayor Tracy Dobie says that the Streetscape project will establish an atmosphere, ambience, and a welcoming appearance that will encourage the use of the area by locals and tourists alike, while the upgrade of the car park will improve foot traffic and drive more business towards the local retailers in the Stanthorpe main street.

You are invited to the official opening to mark the completion of this project on Monday, 4th December at 9:00am.
