The Southern Downs Regional Council today welcomes Mayor Tracy Dobie and a new look team for the 2016 term. Results of the March poll were confirmed on Wednesday, March 30, by the Electoral Council of Queensland (ECQ). The new council will be headed by Warwick-local Mayor Tracy Dobie, formerly the Implementation Manager at Destination Southern Downs. Mayor Dobie will be joined by newcomers Rod Kelly, Yve Stocks, Sheryl Windle and Marika McNichol, and returning Councillors Jo McNally, Cameron Gow, Neil Meiklejohn and Vic Pennisi.

The new Council was welcomed by Southern Downs Regional Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr David Keenan.

“On behalf of the management and staff of Southern Downs Regional Council, I would like to congratulate Mayor Dobie and Councillors on their successful election to Council for the 2016 Term,” he said. “We welcome back Councillors McNally, Meiklejohn, Gow and Pennisi and look forward to getting to know our new Councillors Kelly, Stocks, Windle and McNichol.”

The Councillors and Mayor will be officially sworn in at a formal ceremony to be held at the first Council meeting on Wednesday, April 6, at the Warwick Council Chambers.

The position of Deputy Mayor is yet to be determined, and a vote will be held following the ceremony during the April 6 meeting. Councillors may nominate themselves or another Councillor as a candidate for the position, with the vote to be decided by show of hand.
