Their first meeting was held on Thursday January 30 with young leaders learning more about their roles, events in the year and discussion about priorities and plans.

Southern Downs Regional Council Youth Development Officer Hailey Cosh said this year sees the transformation from the localised ‘Young Ambassador and Young Delegate’ programs to the new regional Southern Downs Young Leaders Program.

SDRC Mayor Cr Peter Blundell said the youth program was a vital component of Council and he and all councillors are keen to work with the young leaders on issues of importance.

“I am always impressed with the ideas and innovation of young people and Council is energised by their presence.

“We particularly look forward to developing the Youth Action Plan and putting fresh ideas into practice,” he said.
